Did you know the arabic word زوج – zawj, the Sanskrit word Yoga, the English word yoke and the Pashto word jagh, yagh or jogh, all come from the same root word yewg meaning to unite in an ancient language called Proto-Indo-European that was spoken as far back as some 7000 thousand years ago. Now the arabic zawj which means one of a pair or a spouse is actually a loanword from ancient greek as Arabic is a Semitic language rather an an Indo-European one. Coming to the Sanskrit yoga, even though it’s taken as a spiritual and mental exercise, it’s interpretation is that it’s the union of mind, spirit and body. Time for the most interesting bit, the English yoke and the Pashto jagh mean the exact same thing that is a wooden beam attached to the necks of a pair of oxen to unite them in a single contraption. This is mostly used for ploughing purposes. Despite the differences in semantics, one thing has remained consistent that is the the underlying theme or connotation that is union, unification, joining together etc which shows us that they all have a shared lexical root.
ایا ته پوهېږې چې د عربۍ ويی «زوج»، د سنسکرت «یوګه»، او د پښتو «جغ، جوغ، یغ» ټول له یوه ګډ بنسټیز/آر ويي «یوګ» څخه راوتلي دي، چې مانا یې «یو ځای کول» يا «متحد کول» ده. دا بنسټیز ویي د یوې ډېرې لرغونې ژبې، یعنې Proto-Indo-European، پورې تړاو لري چې زرګونه کاله پخوا ویل کېده.
اوس که د عربۍ ويي «زوج» مانا ته وګورو، نو دا د جوړې یوې برخې ته ویل کېږي، لکه مېړه او مېرمن. خو په اصل کې دا کلمه له لرغونې یونانۍ څخه پور شوې ده، دلته د دې يادونه مهمه ده چې عربي ژبه د سامي ژبو له کورنۍ څخه ده، نه د هند-اروپايي ژبو څخه.
همدارنګه د سنسکرت «یوګه» کلمه، که څه هم نن سبا زیاتره د ذهن او اروا د تمرینونو په مانا کارېږي، خو اصلي تصور یې د ذهن، بدن او اروا یووالی او همغږي ده.
او بیا تر ټولو زړه پورې تړاو دا دی چې د انګلیسي ويی “yolk” او د پښتو «جوغ» یوه مانا لري. «جوغ» هغه لرګین آله ده چې د دوو غواييانو په څټونو تړل کېږي، چې دواړه یو لوري ته برابر شي او د يوي آله کښ کړي.
د معنا له پلوه، د دې ټولو وييونو ترمنځ یو ګډ مفهوم لیدل کېږي، او هغه «یو ځای کېدل»، «متحد کېدل» او يا هم «یووالی» دی. دا ښيي چې دا ټول وييونه، سره له ژبني توپیرونو، نژدې یو ګډ لغوي میراث
